Permanent Hair Removal

You may think "permanent" means lasting forever. Unfortunately, that's not always the case. A permanent wave in your hair is not really permanent, and a permanent marker is not necessarily permanent.

Permanent Hair Removal
The only method of clinically proven permanent hair removal is electrolysis. Some lasers and flash lamps have been able to achieve permanent hair reduction.

Permanent Hair Reduction
The long-term, stable reduction in the number of hairs that re grow after a treatment. The number of hairs that re grow must be stable over a time greater than the duration of the complete growth cycle of hair follicles, which varies from 4-12 months according to body location. Permanent hair reduction does not necessarily imply the elimination of all hairs in the treatment area.

Hair Removal vs. Hair Reduction
Permanent hair removal has been established as the complete destruction of a hair follicle's ability to regenerate and grow hair.

Several lasers have demonstrated permanent hair reduction in clinical studies and are allowed to make this claim by FDA. The word "reduction" adds another term that is vaguely defined. FDA has accepted the definition of reduction as a stable reduction in the number of coarse dark hairs. Some lasers have demonstrated in clinical testing that they can reduce the size of hairs and lighten the color. In some patients, this reduction appears to be permanent. Transdermal Electrolysus: __________________
Advertising claims an electrified cotton swab can remove hair permanently, but there is no scientific proof of this. Some manufacturers claim that it is effective for bikini hair removal, breasts, legs, feet, shoulders, chest, back, hairline, eyebrows, & face. __________________
How it is done:
Conductive gel is spread on the skin, electricity is passed through a cotton swab which is touched to the gel and then electricity supposedly travels down the hair follicle and permanently damages the hair root.

Unproven Claims: "Painless and permanent", "No side effects", "Clinically proven", "More effective than electrolysis, and without the needle.", "Hair can conduct enough energy to kill the root."
